Samsung Hope Relay

On your marks, get set, take part.

Take part in the Samsung Hope Relay and you might just see your very own avatar used in Samsung ads. All you need to do is simply download the app, create your avatar and start logging your miles – it couldn’t be easier.

To help raise money for charities, such as Kids Company and International Inspiration, Samsung will be donating one pound for every mile run. So, it’s time to get running!

I worked within a small team developing the Android client for Samsung’s Hope Relay, a companion app for the London Olympics 2012 Torch Relay. The app was simple in it’s basic premise: a running app that allows the user to track their run. Samsung would then donate money for every mile/km that the user has run. The app contained a number of interesting challenges: such as the customisable avatar which allowed users to create a custom avatar using a photo, as well as trying to make the GPS-based location tracking as accurate as possible.

P.S. You can even see my name in the second screenshot of the Google Play listing. I wonder who created that screenshot?
